Small Business Saturday followed Black Friday sales in Downtown Mobile. Folks got their shop on despite the inflation...

It turns out nothing’s going to stop us from getting our loved ones nice things. We also won’t turn down the chance to partake in some much-deserved retail therapy.

We can justify shopping in this economy because who else is going to support our treasured local businesses? After all, they are the lifeblood of the city.

Aside from business, another thing that makes our city thrive is art. And one institution upholding this passion and tradition is the Mobile Museum of Art.

It has, once again, gained accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums. This might not seem surprising, given that the MMA is one of the best museums in the state. It’s hard not to be proud of it.

Speaking of pride, the Port City Pacers and the Friends of Mobile Trees planted two trees in honor of local runners who passed away too soon.

This bittersweet event reminds us to appreciate those who are active in our community, especially if they’re still around.

On a lighter note, Mobile Parks and Recreation held the Iron Bowl Block Party, marking the annual rivalry game between Alabama and Auburn University.

Despite the gray weather and fierce competitiveness between the students, the two schools came together to part-ay.

Lastly, our beloved Dauphin Island is looking to set its town center in Aloe Bay. It’s going to be a multi-year project that will yield a buzzing hub full of restaurants, accommodations, and office spaces.

It’s the ideal location for such a hub because it’s the least prone to natural calamities. It’s also bound to attract more tourists.

Mobilians Know How To Shop!

I wanted to be sure you knew about this simple tool called Rakuten.

Using Rakuten is a no-brainer during the holiday season, which is why we use it. You simply sign up and shop ‘through’ eBates.

Instead of going straight to the site to purchase, you start your shopping session by clicking a button. To date, My family has made more than $1,600 just for our normal purchases.

You get $40 just for signing up and making your first purchase.

❤ Do Some Good, Mobile

A letter from our owner...

Did you know there were over 1,000 nonprofits in Mobile?! Do you know all the good they are doing for our community daily??For example...

  • meals for those in need

  • education resources

  • clothing and interview prepping for those in need of jobs

  • teaching foundational life skills

  • taking care of children who are sick

  • paying medical bills for those who can not afford healthcare

  • advocating for sexually and physically abused children

The list goes on...Brooks and I may not have a ton of money to donate, and we may not have a ton if extra time. But what we do have is this platform!

The Mobile Rundown’s goal with our Do Some Good Mobile publication is to educate the public on all the organizations in our area that are doing some good and connect YOU with ways to get involved!!

We are going into our 5th year of Do Some Good, and I want to make this our best year yet!! Some organizations can afford to be a part of this magazine, and some can not. That is where I need YOUR HELP! We are looking for individuals and businesses to come alongside us this year to allow us to include AS MANY ORGANIZATIONS AS POSSIBLE!!

If you feel led to help organizations in our community, just reply to this email or reach out.

Yall, more good is being done in Mobile than you will ever hear about on the news— I promise!

Help me keep it going!!

And if you are a nonprofit that wants to be included, please let me know!

- Mandee Conkle
